Where to Stay · Rural Fincas

Rural fincas near Frigiliana.

Country houses and farmhouses in the hills around the village — peace, space, often a private pool, and the kind of stillness you can’t get in the centre. A car is essential.

A finca is a Spanish farmhouse or country house — usually sitting on its own bit of land (a garden, an orchard, sometimes olive groves), often with a pool, always with a view of something worth looking at. Frigiliana is surrounded by hillside fincas, both on the slopes above the village and down in the valley toward Nerja.

Fincas trade convenience for quiet. You’ll drive everywhere, including into the village for dinner. In return, you get something that’s genuinely peaceful — sweeping views, nights so quiet you can hear the cicadas stop, mornings on a terrace with no one else around. They’re the village’s most romantic stay, and the most generous for groups.

Our picks

Fincas we’d shortlist.

Verified-real, well-reviewed Frigiliana fincas with private pools. Each is bookable via the platforms or directly with the owner.

Villa Cataleya

5 bedrooms · sleeps 10 · edge of village

The largest of our picks. At the village entrance, so a 10-minute walk into the old town is realistic — unusual for a finca. Big private pool (6.75m), sea and mountain views, BBQ, A/C throughout. Best for extended families and group trips. Listed on TripAdvisor, Solmar, Jet2Villas, and Nerja Paradise Rentals.

Carob Tree Villa

Sleeps 4–6 · 5.0/5 TripAdvisor · valley

Down in the valley below the village. The defining feature is a 70-year-old carob tree shading the terrace, plus an unusual chlorine-free ecological pool. Smaller and quieter than the larger fincas — a couple’s or small-family choice with strong reviews.

Cortijo Manguita

3 bedrooms · sleeps 6 · countryside

Among mango trees in the countryside outside the village. Private pool with mountain views, multiple terraces, A/C throughout, and — usefully — Starlink wifi, which makes it one of the few fincas suitable for proper remote work. Bookable directly via casaruralfrigiliana.com.

Cortijo las Palmeras

3 bedrooms · sleeps 6 · between villages

10 minutes from Frigiliana, 15 from Nerja — a useful base for splitting time between village and beach. 7m × 4m private pool, BBQ, shaded outdoor dining, sea and valley views. Bookable on Airbnb.

Cortijo Cortes

Sleeps 4–6 · traditional · rural

The most architecturally traditional of our picks — an authentic Andalusian cortijo retaining its original character. Palm-surrounded private pool. Best for travellers who want the historic feel rather than the modernised version. Listed on Andalucia-Natural.

Casa Barranca

3 bedrooms · sleeps 6 · valley

2 km from Frigiliana, surrounded by avocado groves and citrus trees. The defining feature is 360° views from the property — village, valley, sea and Sierra. Private pool, large mature gardens. Bookable directly via the owners’ site. Best for visitors who want the “working countryside” feel rather than a hotel-finca.

Cortijo Orihuela

3 bedrooms · sleeps 6 · 7-min drive

A full cortijo conversion in countryside seven minutes’ drive from the village. Private pool, mountain views, the kind of stillness that fincas are bought for. Listed via Andalucia-Natural. Best for couples or small families wanting privacy without going miles out.

Villa Cortijo Trivino

Sleeps 6 · mountain backdrop

Just outside Frigiliana with the Sierra rising directly behind. Private pool with sunbeds, BBQ terrace, and a setting that puts the mountains in every photo. Sold via TUI as a package-holiday option, so a good fit if you want flights-and-villa wrapped together.

If you want to search yourself

Where to find more.

Most fincas around Frigiliana are listed on a few specialist platforms rather than via traditional hotels — here’s where to look beyond our shortlist.

Spain-Holiday.com

Specialist Spanish-villa rental platform with a strong Frigiliana inventory. Good for narrowing by “private pool”, “sea view”, and bedroom count. Mostly direct-from-owner.

Airbnb & Vrbo

The biggest selection of Frigiliana fincas, particularly for shorter stays. Filter by “private pool” and check the satellite view to see how isolated and how the access road looks.

Simply Owners

Rentals from individual owners with no booking-platform fees. Smaller pool of properties but often better value, especially for longer stays.

Local rental agents

Frigiliana and Nerja agents handle a portion of the upmarket finca market off-platform. Worth a phone call for stays of two weeks or more, or for higher-end requirements (heated pool, etc.).

What to look for: private pool, generous bedroom count if you’re a group, an access road suitable for a regular hire car, and confirmed wifi quality if you need to work. For tailored recommendations — “something quiet for a couple”, “a six-bed for a family reunion” — drop us a line and we can point you at agents we trust.

What to expect from a finca stay

  • A drive into the village — fincas range from 5 minutes by car to 20+. Plan accordingly. Walking is rarely realistic with shopping or after dinner.
  • Private pools — the main draw. Most fincas in this price bracket have one. Confirm size, sun aspect, and whether it’s heated (most aren’t — too cold to use Nov–April).
  • Generous space — typically 2–6 bedrooms, often a covered terrace, BBQ, garden. Designed for time spent at the property.
  • Variable internet — rural Spain is improving but still patchy. Critical to confirm before booking if you need to work.
  • Air-con may not be everywhere — older fincas often have it only in bedrooms. In July–August this matters.
  • Parking and access — fincas reached via mountain tracks aren’t suitable for low cars. Ask about the road condition.

Where to look

Three areas of countryside.

Above the village

Higher elevation, cooler nights, sweeping views back over Frigiliana to the Mediterranean. The drive in is winding but short. Best for the view-driven traveller.

Down the valley toward Nerja

Below the village, in the Río Higuerón valley. Closer to both Frigiliana and the coast. Olive groves, almond trees, gentler ground. Best for families and easy access.

Towards Cómpeta & the Axarquía

Further inland, deeper into the wine country. More remote, more spectacular, and a longer drive to Frigiliana itself. Best for a real "off the beaten track" stay.

Who it suits

Best for these kinds of trips.

Groups of 4+

The economics shift: a 4-bedroom finca for €350/night split across 8 adults is genuinely cheap, and you get the place to yourselves.

Families with young children

Private pool, garden, no neighbours to keep quiet for. The freedom of a private rural stay is hard to overstate with kids.

Longer stays (1 week+)

Where the weekly rate makes sense and the pace of finca life suits — slow mornings, day trips, swims at the end of the day.

Couples wanting privacy

The most romantic Frigiliana option. Bring food in, cook on the terrace, watch the sun drop behind the Sierra Almijara.

What fincas cost

Per night, with significant variation by size and quality:

  • Smaller (2-bedroom): €120–250/night
  • Mid-size (3-4 bedrooms): €200–450/night
  • Large (5+ bedrooms): €350–700+/night

Most fincas have weekly minimums in summer (Saturday-to-Saturday is typical). Off-season is more flexible and can be a fraction of summer rates.

Where to book

  • Airbnb & Vrbo — solid selection of fincas. Filter by "private pool" and look at sat-view to check the road in.
  • Specialist villa companies — for higher-end fincas, companies like Olive Tree Holidays, Travel Andalucia, or local Costa del Sol villa specialists list curated properties with proper photography.
  • Local agents — for longer stays, local property agents in Frigiliana and Nerja can match you with off-platform fincas.

For July–August, book 4–6 months ahead — fincas with private pools are the first thing to go.
