Events & Festivals
Frigiliana events calendar.
A whitewashed village of 3,000 people hosts more festivals than you’d expect. Here’s a year in Frigiliana — the saint’s day fair, the solstice bonfires, the Festival of Three Cultures, and the quieter traditions in between.
A year in Frigiliana
Frigiliana is a small pueblo, but its calendar is unusually full. The big events — the Feria de San Antonio in June and the Festival of Three Cultures in August — pull thousands of visitors from across the Costa del Sol and the Axarquía region. Between them sit smaller, more local celebrations: saint’s days, the Noche de San Juan bonfires, a romería (village pilgrimage), and the Día de la Miel de Caña that honours the last working sugar cane mill in Europe.
This page is our running calendar of what’s on in Frigiliana through 2026 — when each event happens, what to expect, and whether it’s worth timing your trip around.

More about December ↓The three not to miss
Frigiliana’s biggest events.
If you’re planning a trip around an event, these three are the calendar’s peaks.
Festival of Three Cultures
Late August · four days
The Festival de las Tres Culturas is the village’s signature event — four days of concerts, street performances, artisan markets and food stalls celebrating the Christian, Moorish and Jewish heritage of Andalusia. The old town fills up completely. Book accommodation three to six months ahead.
Feria de San Antonio
13th June · five days either side
Frigiliana’s patron saint is San Antonio de Padua, and his feast day on 13th June kicks off the Feria — the village fair. Processions, live music in the plaza, a popular Queen of the Feria crowning, late-night dancing in the feria ground, and the statue of San Antonio carried through the old town.
Noche de San Juan
23–24 June · summer solstice
The shortest night of the year, celebrated across Spain with bonfires on the beaches. Frigiliana’s Noche de San Juan sits between the village and the coast — most locals head down to Burriana Beach in Nerja for the fires, but there are parties in the village too. A rich, evening-long tradition with deep folk roots.
The full year
Events in Frigiliana, month by month.
Dates that shift each year (like Easter) are noted; fixed dates are fixed.
February
Carnaval →
Costumes, satirical songs, and a village-wide parade. Smaller and more family-focused than the big-city Carnavales of Cádiz or Málaga, but full of local character.
Día de Andalucía →
Andalusia Day — a regional public holiday. Flags up, town hall open day, local food and a chance to see the community’s more civic side.
May
Spring at its best — the cane harvest comes in, the village dresses its squares with flowers, and the calendar fills up with smaller, more local events. None of these need booking ahead, but May is also one of the loveliest months to actually be here.
Cruces de Mayo (May Crosses)
Frigiliana’s squares, courtyards and balconies are decorated with crosses dressed in fresh flowers — a tradition that goes back centuries and rolls across most Andalusian villages. Wander the old town the first weekend of May to see them. Nerja stages a bigger version on the same weekend if you want both.
Día de la Miel de Caña →
Cane honey day at El Ingenio — the last working sugar cane mill in Europe. Free tastings of miel de caña paired with cheeses, breads and pestiños, plus mill demonstrations, a small artisan market, and rociero choirs and folk dancing into the evening. Quietly one of the most authentic days in the village calendar.
Romería de San Isidro In Nerja
The patron saint of farmers honoured with a pilgrimage from El Salvador church up to the Nerja Caves — ox-drawn carts, horses, traditional Andalusian dress, and a long countryside lunch. A 15-minute drive from the village; a good day to head down to the coast.
Ruta de la Tapa de Nerja In Nerja
Twelve days, sixteen restaurants, one signature tapa each — Nerja’s annual tapas trail. Pick up a route map in town and work your way around. The kind of low-key gastronomic event that feels like a local secret rather than a tourist event. Worth the short drive down from the village.
June
Feria de San Antonio →
Five days of fair around the patron saint’s feast day. Live music, traditional dancing, a feria ground on the edge of the village, and the statue of San Antonio carried through the streets in procession.
Noche de San Juan →
Summer solstice night — bonfires on the beaches, swimming at midnight, local traditions about burning a list of what you want to leave behind. Best experienced at the coast; Burriana Beach in Nerja is the nearest option.
Planning a trip around an event
The two events that significantly affect availability and pricing in Frigiliana are the Feria de San Antonio in June and the Festival of Three Cultures in late August. For both, book accommodation at least three months ahead — ideally six for Tres Culturas. The other events on this calendar add flavour and atmosphere but rarely require special planning.
Dates for floating events (Semana Santa, Carnaval, the Romería, the exact Tres Culturas weekend) are published by the town hall and local press a few weeks ahead. The official website and the tourism office on Calle Real are the best sources. If you’re planning a visit around a specific event and want the latest dates, drop us a line and we’ll send you the confirmed schedule.
Our rough rule: for the authentic village atmosphere, come in June around San Antonio. For the biggest party, come for the Festival of Three Cultures in late August. For peace and quiet but a December craft market, come at Christmas. There’s no bad time — just different Frigilianas.
