Where to Stay · Apartments

Self-catering apartments.

Whitewashed houses in the old town, modern apartments in the newer village, and everything in between — the right call for families, longer stays, and anyone who wants the freedom of their own kitchen.

Self-catering is the most flexible accommodation option in Frigiliana. You get a full kitchen, often a private terrace or balcony, and the freedom to cook with what you find at the Thursday market. For families, longer stays, or anyone who likes a slow morning before committing to a plan, an apartment usually works better than a hotel room.

Three types

What you’ll find.

Old-town houses & apartments

Whitewashed village houses, often on multiple floors, with traditional features — beamed ceilings, tiled floors, deep blue shutters. Best for character. Steep cobbled streets to navigate; you’ll park on the edge and walk in.

New-village apartments

Modern build, on flatter ground below the old town. Easier with a car, easier with kids and luggage, often with private parking. Less character, more practicality. Often have shared pools.

Long-term rentals

For stays of 1+ months, you’ll find better value renting privately rather than via the holiday platforms. Fewer choices but significantly cheaper. Mostly in the new village.

What to expect from the kitchen

Most Frigiliana apartments come with compact but functional kitchens — gas hob, oven, fridge, kettle, basic cookware, plates and glassware for the bedroom count. Don’t expect a stand mixer or a wide range of specialist tools, but you can cook a real meal.

What’s usually provided: oil, salt, pepper, sometimes basic spices. Plus tea, coffee, and milk for arrival.

What’s usually not: ingredients beyond the basics. Pop down to the village mini-market or — if it’s Thursday — the weekly market for everything you need.

Who it suits

Best for these trips.

Families with kids

Space to spread out, a kitchen for breakfast and snacks, often a separate bedroom. Quietly transformative for travelling with small children.

Longer stays (1 week+)

Restaurant fatigue is real. Mid-trip kitchen breaks — a salad on the terrace, simple pasta in — let you keep enjoying restaurant meals when you do go out.

Slow-travel couples

For people who like to settle into a place — coffee on the terrace in the morning, market shopping, cooking with what you find. The Frigiliana version of "living like a local for a week".

Working remotely

Apartments give you a desk and a kitchen — much more sustainable than a hotel for a longer working stay. Wifi quality varies; ask before booking.

What apartments cost

Per night, varies considerably with size and location:

  • Studio / 1-bedroom: €60–150/night depending on season and quality
  • 2-bedroom apartment / small house: €100–250/night
  • Larger village houses (3-4 bedrooms): €150–400/night

Weekly and monthly rates are usually significantly cheaper per night than nightly rates — worth asking the host directly.

Where to book

  • Airbnb — the largest selection of Frigiliana apartments. Verified reviews, decent filtering, easy international booking.
  • Booking.com — also lists apartments, often the same properties as Airbnb. Comparison-shop both.
  • Local rental agents — for longer stays (1+ months), local agents in Frigiliana and Nerja have properties not on the platforms, often at better rates.
  • Direct from owner — some owners list on personal websites and are happy to take direct bookings.
