Weather · May
Frigiliana weather in May.
Spring at its peak. Beach days start, the cane-honey festival is at El Ingenio, and a string of smaller events fill the calendar.
What May feels like in Frigiliana
May is when the year tips into summer. Daytime highs reach 24–26°C, the sea warms enough for proper swimming by mid-month, and the village fills with the first wave of European visitors without yet feeling crowded. The countryside is still green from the spring rains. The Día de la Miel de Caña honours the village's sugar-cane heritage at El Ingenio, and small Cruces de Mayo (May Crosses) installations appear in the squares. Up the coast in Nerja, the Romería de San Isidro and the Ruta de la Tapa give two more reasons to be in the Axarquía in May.

Frigiliana vs Nerja in May
Frigiliana sits at 300m elevation, six kilometres inland and uphill from Nerja. That elevation difference makes the village consistently 1–2°C cooler than the Nerja coast — most noticeably in summer afternoons and evenings. In May, expect Nerja to be one or two degrees warmer on the warmest part of the day, with the gap narrowing in the cooler months. Sea temperatures (around 18°C) are the same whether you swim from Burriana or from one of the secluded coves at Maro.
